ベン・ミラーは川の景観が織りなすリズムと一体になって作品を制作し、その人生と作品を通じて、常に変化し続ける美しい自然空間を讃え、保護することに尽力しているアーティストです。 シアトルの北東に位置する山間の田園、ワシントン州ダリントンで育ったミラーは、数十年にわたり自然の川景色を描写してきました。美術教師としてダリントンで12年間教壇に立った後、2016年にモンタナ州ボーズマンに移り、芸術活動をさらに進化させ、現在使用している独特の技法を開発しました。 作品の　制作はまず、川の土手に傾いたイーゼルを立て、その上にキャンバスの代わりとなるポリカーボネートのシートを置くことから始まります。水、岩、雪などの自然の要素と相互に作用する光の変化を正確に捉えるために、彼は一日中絵の具を混ぜ合わせ、手作りの筆（フライ）を使い、絵の具を混ぜ合わせた後、3メートルほど離れたところから正確なフライ・キャスティングの動きで絵の具を画面に投げつけます。時には一つの作品に丸一日、何千ものキャストを費やし、川景色のダイナミックな特質をユニークに捉えています。 Ben Miller’s practice is attuned to the rhythms of the river landscapes that he paints. His life and work strive to celebrate and preserve these natural spaces of constant change and beauty. Raised in Darrington, Washington, a rural mountain town northeast of Seattle, Miller has been making art concerned with rendering the natural riverscape for decades. After 12 years of teaching art in Darrington, he moved to Bozeman, Montana in 2016 to further evolve his practice and develop the distinct techniques he uses today. Miller begins by erecting a lean-to easel along the bank of a river, then placing a sheet of polycarbonate against it, which will serve as the painting surface. He mixes his paints throughout the day to most accurately capture the way the light shifts and interacts with the natural elements of the water, rocks, snow, and so forth. Using his handmade brushes, he coats them in paint and casts them against the work surface with accurate darting motions from as far as twenty feet away. A single piece may take a full day and thousands of casts, all of which culminate in a painting that uniquely captures the dynamic qualities of the riverscape. https://www.benmillerartist.com/
