今はハリウッドに住んでいて自宅の近くにたくさんの映画館があるから、週に２～３回は映画を観に行ってるよ。映画はファッションデザイナーとしての僕に、とても多くのインスピレーションを与えてくれるんだ。なかでも、１０代の頃から何度も観返している作品が『トレインスポッティング』。登場人物たちが日常的に着ているカジュアルとストリートパンクがミックスされた服装や、たまに見せるスリムフィットスーツの着こなし方が大好きなんだ。そんな彼らのスタイルは、まさに僕が生み出すファッションデザインの特徴でもあって。僕のコレクションでは、常に半分はストリートとロックンロールをテーマにしていて、そこに必ずフォーマルなスーツとトラッドなスタイルを足すようにしているんだ。あと、若き日のユアン・マクレガーが演じた主人公レントンを真似て、ボロボロの〈CONVERSE〉オールスターを履くことにハマってた時期もあったよ。そんな経験もあって、２０１８年に〈CONVERSE〉とコラボレーションしたときには、僕のアイデアで『トレインスポッティング』のワンシーンをリメイクしたコマーシャルムービーを作ったんだ。

Movies are a mirror of the times and have been closely tied to fashion. Just as there are movies, where we like the story and the actors so much, that we watch again and again. There are also movies with costumes unforgettably fascinating. Nepenthes is keen to know of the works that became fashion inspirations to the visionaries. In this issue, we invited 10 creators to reveal and reminisce their encounter with movies and fashion.
I live in Hollywood, so there are many theaters near me, and I probably go at least 2 to 3 times a week. As a designer, I have found inspiration from many movies over the years. But the one movie I’ve always looked at, since I was a teen, for styling is Trainspotting. I have always loved the mix of casual/street punk style the characters wear daily, but then mixed with the scenes of formality in which they are seen wearing slim fitting suits. I feel like this style reflects my designs language very well. Half of my collections are more street and rock and roll themed, but I regularly add in formal suiting and traditional styles. After seeing the movie, I was very into wearing dirty/distressed Converse, like Mark Renton was. When I did my Converse collaboration in 2018, I actually remade a scene from the movie for my commercial.
